For a long time, we have mainly talked about fertility when there is difficulty in achieving a pregnancy. Fortunately, this perspective is changing, and we are increasingly aware of the importance of understanding our fertility before a problem arises.
Taking care of our reproductive health means knowing it. Understanding how it evolves over the years, knowing what factors can influence it, and being aware of the options that medicine offers today allows us to make more informed decisions about our future.
A few days ago, we experienced a moment at Tambre that very well represents this change. We signed an agreement with the Royal Spanish Football Federation to support female players and referees in understanding and taking care of their reproductive health, offering them information and specialized medical advice, and, when they wish and always under medical guidance, options for fertility preservation.
For me, this agreement goes far beyond a collaboration between two organizations. It represents a way of understanding reproductive medicine that I deeply believe in: not waiting for a difficulty to arise to start informing ourselves, but putting knowledge within reach of women so they can make their own decisions.
And it is a conviction that, in my case, is also very personal.
Before becoming CEO of Grupo Tambre, I was a fertility patient. I am a mother thanks to reproductive medicine, and although my daughters are now 20 years old, that experience continues to be part of my understanding of this work. I know what it means to trust in science to fulfilll the desire to become a mother, and also how important it is to feel informed and supported along that journey.
That’s why I believe our responsibility as professionals begins much earlier than the treatment. We have to help women better understand their fertility, know how it changes throughout life, and access rigorous medical information about the possibilities that exist at each moment.
The agreement with the RFEF is a good example. Elite athletes develop their professional careers during years that are also important from a reproductive standpoint. Providing them with this knowledge allows them to assess their personal situation, resolve doubts, and understand the available alternatives without conditioning their decisions. The RFEF itself has proposed the agreement with that objective: to offer tools so that they can face their personal and professional future with greater knowledge and freedom.
And here is something that seems fundamental to me. Preserving fertility is a choice, not an obligation. Informing about egg freezing does not mean telling a woman when she should become a mother, nor even assuming that she wants to be one. It also does not mean presenting preservation as a guaranty of future motherhood. It means being able to understand the possibilities and also their limitations to decide what to do with that information.
I believe this is one of the great challenges we have ahead of us. Reproductive medicine has advanced enormously, and today we have diagnostic tools, treatments, and preservation possibilities that were unthinkable years ago. But scientific advances are even more valuable when we manage to get that knowledge to people in time.
As CEO of Grupo Tambre, a significant part of my job involves representing and advocating for this approach to understanding reproductive medicine. We want to be there when a person needs treatment, of course, but also to help society better understand their fertility, to be able to talk about it naturally, and to have reliable information before having to make important decisions.
And as a woman who was able to become a mother thanks to science, for me, this responsibility has an even more special meaning.
Science allowed me to become a mother. Today, I want to contribute to ensuring that science and knowledge help other women make their own decisions, whatever they may be.
Because knowing our fertility does not determine our future. It gives us more tools to decide it.
