But this article isn’t about Dorien. Or, at least, not exactly.
It’s about what I learned by supporting, as a friend and as a CEO, a story that reminded me why I do this job.
There are cases that come to you as a professional. Others as a patient. And some, very few, also as a friend.
I’ve known Dorien for many years. We share a background, a language and a friendship that has stood the test of time. I also knew the long road she had travelled in her desire to be a mother. A journey full of attempts, uncertainty and moments when many people would have lost hope.
When she decided to put her trust in Tambre, that story took on a different dimension for me.Living that experience through the eyes of a friend made me feel even prouder of the way we understand reproductive medicine at Tambre: with the utmost scientific rigour, but also with a deep human involvement. Because that combination is precisely what makes each story unique.
As CEO, I spend a lot of my time thinking about strategy, innovation, growth and research. These are essential aspects for an organisation to move forward. But stories like Dorien’s constantly remind me of the true meaning of all that effort.
In reproductive medicine, we often talk about success rates, protocols, scientific evidence or new technologies. And we must do so. Science is the foundation of our work and the driving force that allows us to offer increasingly better treatments.
But I’ve also learned that science alone isn’t enough.
Each patient arrives with a different story, with different circumstances and with emotions that don’t appear in any medical record. That’s why I’ve always believed that excellence consists of combining the utmost scientific rigour with deeply personalised and human care.

That’s the medicine I believe in.
Today, Dorien can tell a story with a happy ending. And I’m deeply happy, not just as CEO, but also as a friend.
But what’s really important is what that story represents.
It represents the importance of never stopping looking for answers. Of continuing to research. Of continually questioning how we can do things better. Of understanding that behind every scientific innovation there’s a person waiting for an opportunity.
I’m often asked what Tambre’s greatest achievement is.
I never think first about awards, recognition or data.
I think of stories like Dorien’s. Because it’s these stories that remind us that our job isn’t just about helping to create new lives. Above all, it’s about taking care of the people who trust us to walk one of the most important paths in their lives.
